Why has my automatic gate stopped working?

Most gate and barrier faults come from power, a safety device that is blocked or misaligned, the remote or receiver, the control board, or wear in the track, gears or arm. Use this table to see what a symptom usually means and what we check.

SymptomCommon causesWhat we check
Gate does not open or closeNo power or a tripped breaker, flat remote battery, receiver or learned codes, blown fuse, control-board faultPower and breaker, remote and receiver, fuse, control board and its fault indication

What can I check safely before calling, and when should I stop?

Safe checks are limited to the things you can see without opening anything. Check that the mains isolator or breaker serving the gate is on, replace the remote battery, clear any obstruction from the gate path or track, and wipe the photocell lenses with a soft cloth. If your operator has a manual release, use it as described in its manual and keep people, children and vehicles clear of the gate.

Stop and call us if you see sparks, smell burning, find exposed wires or a damaged motor housing, the gate leaf has come off its track, or anyone is trapped. Do not open the motor or control box, and never bypass or disconnect a photocell or safety edge to make the gate move; those devices protect people from being crushed. Powered gates are covered by safety standards such as EN 13241 and EN 12453, and a repair should leave every safety device working.

What happens when you call us about a gate fault?

You describe the fault, we visit to find the cause, and we quote the repair in writing before work starts. The steps are the same for a villa, a compound, a car park or an industrial yard.

  1. Call or WhatsApp +971 55 651 7843: tell us the gate or barrier type and brand if you know it, what it does, and when it started.
  2. Site visit: we check power, the control board, the remote and receiver, the safety devices, the track or arm, and the motor.
  3. Written quote: we explain what failed, what repair or replacement is needed and whether parts are available.
  4. Repair and check: after the repair we test opening, closing and every safety device, and confirm the remote and any keypad, reader or ANPR link work.
  5. Optional maintenance: if you wish, the gate can then be brought under a maintenance contract.

We reply the same working day to gate and barrier fault call-outs in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain; Al Ain is served from our Mussafah office. Call or WhatsApp +971 55 651 7843 within our operating hours, Monday to Saturday, 08:00 to 19:00. We are not a 24-hour service.

Do you repair gates and barriers in Al Ain?

Yes. We reply the same working day to gate and barrier faults in Al Ain, served from our Mussafah office. We attend villas, estates and farm gates in areas such as Al Jimi, Zakher, Al Towayya, Al Muwaiji and Hili, and commercial and industrial yards in Sanaiya and Kizad Al Ain.

Sand, dust and summer heat are the main causes of wear on Al Ain and Abu Dhabi gates: grit in sliding-gate tracks and rollers, and heat on motors and control boards. See our pages on automatic gates in Al Ain and gate barriers in Al Ain for new installations, including remote farm gates.

Which Abu Dhabi areas do you repair gates and barriers in?

We attend gate and barrier faults across Abu Dhabi Emirate, from Mussafah and the city districts to the islands, the suburbs and the industrial zones. Each area page below describes the local gate and barrier conditions we work in:

Al Ain is covered separately above; see our Al Ain gate barrier page.

Should I repair or replace a gate motor or barrier?

Repair is usually right for a single fault on a sound gate; replacement is worth considering when faults keep returning, parts are no longer available, or the operator is too small for the gate. After the diagnosis we tell you which applies. A new operator or a replacement control board can often be fitted to the existing gate.

For a new motor or barrier see sliding gate motors, swing gate motors and the gate barrier cost guide.

Is a one-off repair or a maintenance contract better?

A repair fixes the fault in front of you; a maintenance contract aims to prevent the next one through scheduled servicing of the track, moving parts, safety devices and backup battery. A maintenance contract for gates and barriers is available, with scope agreed per site after a survey; we do not publish fixed terms or prices. See the annual maintenance contract page for how our maintenance contracts work, and our guide to gate barrier systems for UAE compounds.

Scope — what we deliver and explicitly do not

Repair work follows the same honest-scope rules as the rest of this site.

  • We deliver: on-site diagnosis and repair of existing automatic sliding gates, swing gates and boom barriers in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain — motors, control boards, remotes and receivers, photocells, safety edges, loop detectors, keypads and access links — with a written repair quote and a function and safety-device check afterwards.
  • We do not deliver: a 24-hour call-out service, or civil works and fabrication or welding of gate leaves; the repair covers the automation, electronics and safety devices.
  • We are not: an authorised dealer or distributor of CAME, BFT, FAAC, Nice, Magnetic AutoControl or other gate brands. We repair equipment of any brand as an independent integrator.
  • Whether a fault is economical to repair depends on the age and brand of the equipment and on parts availability; we say so plainly.

Common questions

FAQs

Why is my automatic gate not opening?
The usual causes are no power or a tripped breaker, a flat remote battery, a receiver that has lost its learned remote, a blown fuse, a safety device blocking movement, or a control-board fault in the gate opener (motor). Check the breaker and the remote battery and clear the gate path; if it still does not open, call us so the cause can be found safely.
Why does my gate open but not close?
A gate that opens but will not close, or stops partway, is most often held by a dirty or misaligned photocell, an obstruction in its path, a triggered safety edge, or a limit or force setting that has changed. Wiping the photocell lenses and clearing the path are safe first steps; do not bypass the safety devices.
Why is my gate remote not working?
A flat battery is the most common cause, followed by a receiver that has lost the remote's learned code, a weak signal at the receiver, or a control-board fault. We can check the receiver, replace the battery and re-learn or replace remotes as part of a repair.
Why is my boom barrier stuck down or not lifting?
Usual causes are a loop detector that is not sensing, a fault in the arm balance or its springs, a reader or ANPR camera that is not sending the open signal, or a safety sensor fault. Because the balance springs hold the arm under tension, leave arm and balance repairs to a technician.
What should I do if my gate stops working after a power cut?
Check that the breaker or RCD serving the gate has not tripped and switch it back on once. If the gate has a backup battery, it may be flat, and if it still will not move, use the operator's manual release as described in its manual and call us. See our power cut guide if the whole building is without power.
Can you repair a gate that another company installed?
Yes. We diagnose and repair gates and boom barriers of any brand in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, whoever installed them. We are an independent integrator, not an authorised dealer or distributor of CAME, BFT, FAAC, Nice or Magnetic AutoControl, and if a part is no longer available we say so and propose a replacement control board or operator.
How quickly can you attend a gate fault in Abu Dhabi or Al Ain?
We reply the same working day to gate and barrier fault call-outs in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain; Al Ain is served from our Mussafah office. Call or WhatsApp +971 55 651 7843 within our operating hours, Monday to Saturday, 08:00 to 19:00. We are not a 24-hour service.
How much does gate or barrier repair cost?
It depends on the fault and on whether parts are needed, so we find the cause first and then quote the repair in writing. We do not publish a repair price list. For new barrier installations, see the gate barrier cost guide, which gives indicative market ranges.
What damages gate motors in the UAE climate?
Sand and dust in sliding-gate tracks and rollers, summer heat on motors and control boards, and humidity or moisture in control boxes and connectors are the main causes. Regular cleaning, lubrication and safety-device checks reduce faults.
Do you offer maintenance contracts for gates and barriers?
Yes. A maintenance contract is available for gates and barriers, with the scope agreed per site after a survey. We do not publish fixed visit frequencies, response times or prices. See the annual maintenance contract page for how our maintenance contracts work.
How do I open an automatic gate manually?
Most gate operators have a manual release, usually a key lock or a lever on the motor housing, that disconnects the motor so the gate can be pushed by hand. Where it is and how it works differs by brand and model, so follow your operator's manual, switch off the power first if you can, keep people, children and vehicles clear, and re-engage the release afterwards. A sliding gate with a jammed track, or a release that will not turn, should not be forced; call us.
How do I reset a gate motor or reprogram a gate remote?
Procedures differ by brand and model, so use the operator's manual. A simple restart, switching the power off at the isolator or breaker and back on once, clears some faults. Avoid pressing programming buttons you do not recognise, because that can erase the learned remotes or the travel limits and leave the gate unsafe or unusable. If a restart does not help, or the remotes or limits need relearning, call us and we will deal with it as part of a repair.
Why does my gate open by itself?
A gate that opens on its own is usually being triggered by a stuck or damaged remote or wall button, a sensor or loop that is detecting something, moisture or a fault in the control board, or an auto-open setting; older fixed-code remotes can also interfere with a receiver. If it is unsafe, switch the power off at the isolator and call us so the trigger can be found.
How often should an automatic gate be serviced?
The interval depends on how heavily the gate is used, the manufacturer's manual and the site, so a busy car park barrier needs checks more often than a quiet villa gate. Every service should test the safety devices, check the track or arm, lubricate moving parts and check the backup battery. We agree the interval per site and do not publish a fixed schedule.
How long does a gate motor last?
There is no fixed life. It depends on the brand, the duty cycle, the heat, dust and moisture on site, and how well the gate is maintained. A motor sized for a lighter gate, or run beyond its duty cycle, wears out sooner, and backup batteries need replacing over time. After a diagnosis we tell you whether repair or replacement makes sense.
Do you repair Beninca, Ditec, Somfy, Hikvision or ZKTeco gates?
Yes. We repair gate operators and barriers of any brand, including CAME, BFT, FAAC, Nice, Magnetic AutoControl, Beninca, Ditec, Somfy and Hikvision or ZKTeco barrier gates, whoever installed them. We are an independent integrator, not an authorised dealer of these brands, and whether a part is still available depends on the brand and age of the equipment.
How do I know if my gate photocells are misaligned?
Photocells work in pairs facing each other across the gate opening. If the receiving unit's indicator light is off or flashing when nothing is in the way, the beam is blocked, dirty or knocked out of line, and the gate will refuse to close or will reverse. Wipe the lenses and check nothing is in the path; do not bypass or disconnect them, and call us if the light still shows a fault so they can be realigned and tested.
Can you supply or copy a spare gate remote control?
We can programme a compatible spare remote for most common gate motor brands. Most gate receivers learn each remote individually, so a spare has to match your motor brand and frequency and then be programmed into the control board. Tell us the motor brand and model, or send a photo of the remote, and we will confirm which remote fits and programme it on site. Remotes with a fixed code can sometimes be cloned; rolling-code remotes cannot be copied and have to be learned by the receiver.
Which areas do you cover?
Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, with Al Ain served from our Mussafah office. Gate repair in Dubai is not offered; Sharjah and the Northern Emirates are outside our regular coverage. Find us on Google Business Profile.
