Troubleshooting Guide
An alarm that beeps, shows a fault or will not arm is usually telling you something specific: a low battery, a lost power supply, an open door or a cover that has been moved. Here is how to read it and what to do next.
In short: a beeping or faulty burglar alarm is most often reporting a low battery (in the panel, a keypad or a wireless sensor), a mains power loss, an open or badly aligned door or window contact (a zone fault), a tamper alert from a cover that was opened or knocked, or a communication fault with the monitoring link. Read the keypad's message first, check the doors and windows, and look at the power. Silencing the beep by removing a battery hides the problem. If the panel shows a fault you cannot clear, the beeping returns, or the alarm is dead after a power cut, ask an installer to check it. Emirtech installs and maintains alarm systems in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Beeps every few seconds, no alarm | A low battery in the panel, a keypad or a wireless sensor, or a mains power fault. | Read the keypad message and check that the panel has mains power; replace small sensor batteries as the manual says. |
| Keypad shows 'trouble' or a fault light | A system fault such as power, battery, tamper or communication. | Use the keypad's fault or status key to see which fault it is, as the manual describes. |
| Will not arm: zone open | A door or window contact is open or out of line, or a sensor is faulty. | Close and check all doors and windows, then look at the zone named on the keypad. |
| Siren sounds with no cause | A faulty or dirty sensor, an insect or heat near a motion sensor, a loose contact or a tamper trigger. | Note which zone triggered, check the sensor and its cover and tell your installer. |
| Alarm dead after a power cut | The backup battery is flat or has failed, or the power supply has failed. | Check the panel's power light and that the mains supply is back; ask an installer to test the backup battery. |
| Sensor beeps or shows low battery | A wireless sensor's battery is nearly flat. | Replace the sensor battery with the type in the manual and test the sensor. |
| Alarms at night or in hot weather | A motion sensor reacting to heat, sunlight, pets, insects or a moving curtain. | Check what the sensor can see and its position; a technician can adjust sensitivity or move it. |
| Keypad not responding | No power, a lost connection to the panel or a failed keypad. | Check the keypad's power and cable or wireless link; call for help if it stays dead. |
Note the message, the zone name or the fault code before you do anything.
It usually points straight to the cause.
Close and check every door, window and contact the keypad mentions.
A misaligned contact is a common reason for an open zone.
Check that the panel has mains power and that the power light is on.
A tripped breaker or loose plug can look like an alarm fault.
Replace a keypad or sensor battery with the type the manual states.
Use the same type; mixed or weak batteries cause repeat warnings.
Check nothing blocks a motion sensor and that no heat source or curtain moves in front of it.
Do not cover or tape over a sensor.
Record when and where it happens and what the keypad said.
That saves time when you call.
You can look and replace small batteries; leave the panel, the wiring and the monitoring link to a technician.
Reading the keypad, closing doors and windows, checking power, and replacing small sensor or keypad batteries as the manual says.
A fault you cannot clear, beeping that returns, a flat backup battery, repeated false alarms, or an alarm that is dead after a power cut.
Opening the panel, working on mains wiring, disconnecting the backup battery or bypassing a zone you have not checked.
