How do we configure comp-off and time-in-lieu in Abu Dhabi time attendance?

Emirtech Technology is an ADMCC-approved electronic security integrator founded in 2018, working from M44, Mussafah Industrial Area, Abu Dhabi, contactable on +971 55 651 7843. We configure compensation-off (comp-off) and time-in-lieu (TIL) rules on commercial time-attendance platforms — including ZKBio Time, Matrix COSEC, Greytip greytHR and Bayzat — for clients in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Comp-off / TIL is the practice where an employee who works on a declared off-day (weekend or public holiday) earns an equivalent off-day credit instead of additional overtime pay, which can be taken later as leave. UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, Article 28 permits TIL for public-holiday work as an alternative to additional pay, subject to employer policy. Our configuration covers the comp-off accrual rule (1:1 or 1.5:1 depending on your policy), accrual cap, expiry rule (commonly 90 days, 180 days or one year), the leave-request workflow that draws down comp-off balance, and the payroll cross-check so that hours paid as overtime are not also credited as comp-off. We map shift calendars, holiday calendars, manager-approval routing and balance visibility on employee self-service. Honestly: Emirtech is not a Channel Partner or Authorised Distributor of ZKBio Time, Matrix COSEC, Greytip or Bayzat — we hold no manufacturer-level credential of our own. We install and configure these TA platforms commercially via authorised UAE channels. We are not a UAE labour-law advisor: policy thresholds, accrual ratios and expiry windows must be confirmed by your HR / legal team against MoHRE guidance and your registered employment contracts. We do not hold SIRA, ISO 27001, NESA, ADHICS, PDPL certification or CBUAE licences, and we are not affiliated with the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. For an Abu Dhabi-based scoping visit to your HR / payroll setup, call +971 55 651 7843 or email [email protected].

Configuration capabilities

What we configure for comp-off / TIL

Accrual rule mapping

We configure the comp-off accrual ratio (1:1 hours worked to hours credited, or 1.5:1 for public-holiday work) per your HR-approved policy, with separate rules for weekend and public-holiday triggers.

Expiry and cap logic

We set accrual caps (e.g. maximum 5 days carried) and expiry windows (90 / 180 / 365 days) so balances do not accumulate indefinitely, with auto-lapse and pre-expiry notifications on employee self-service.

Leave-request workflow

We wire the comp-off leave type into the existing leave-request workflow, with manager-approval routing, balance deduction on approval, and visibility on the employee dashboard alongside annual and sick leave.

Payroll cross-check

We configure the report and export so that hours already paid as overtime are not also credited as comp-off, preventing double-compensation and giving payroll a clean reconciliation file each cycle.

Scoping checklist before configuration

We use this checklist on the Abu Dhabi scoping visit so the comp-off / TIL rules we configure match what your HR / legal team have actually approved — and so the platform behaviour is predictable from day one. Call +971 55 651 7843 or request a free comp-off TIL configuration consultation.

  • Confirmed list of declared off-days (weekend pattern: Sat-Sun, Fri-Sat or single Friday)
  • Approved public-holiday calendar for the configuration year, sourced from your HR team
  • Accrual ratio per trigger: 1:1 for weekend work, 1.5:1 for public-holiday work (or your policy variant)
  • Accrual cap: maximum comp-off days an employee may carry at any time
  • Expiry window: 90 days / 180 days / 365 days from the date of accrual
  • Whether comp-off is encashable on exit or strictly leave-only
  • Minimum and maximum comp-off leave units (half-day, full-day, multi-day)
  • Manager-approval routing: single approver, two-level, or HR review
  • Overtime-vs-comp-off mutual-exclusion rule (no double-counting on payroll)
  • Employee self-service visibility: balance, expiry date, request history
  • Notification rules: 14-day, 7-day and 1-day pre-expiry reminders
  • HR / legal sign-off on the final rule matrix before go-live

Scope — what we deliver and explicitly do not

Comp-off and time-in-lieu configuration sits at the intersection of HR policy, payroll and the time-attendance platform. Our role is the platform configuration layer — clear honesty on the rest:

  • We deliver: comp-off / TIL accrual rules, caps and expiry on ZKBio Time, Matrix COSEC, greytHR and Bayzat; leave-request workflow integration; payroll-reconciliation reports; employee self-service balance visibility; manager-approval routing — all configured commercially via authorised UAE channels.
  • We do not deliver: drafting of your comp-off / TIL policy itself, MoHRE legal interpretation, payroll-software implementation outside the TA platform, or sandwich-leave / annualised-hours policy advice.
  • We are not: a Channel Partner or Authorised Distributor of ZKBio Time, Matrix COSEC, Greytip greytHR or Bayzat; we hold no manufacturer-level credential of our own. We are not a UAE labour-law advisor and we are not a MoHRE-licensed HR consultancy.
  • We are not affiliated with: UAE MoHRE, UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, or authorised TA platform distributors in UAE.
  • Geographic scope for site visits and electronic-security work: Abu Dhabi and Al Ain only.
  • Credentials we do not hold: SIRA (Dubai), ISO 27001, NESA, ADHICS, PDPL certification, DoH, ADAFSA, DCT, CBUAE.
  • Policy thresholds (accrual ratios, expiry windows, encashment rules) are signed off by your HR / legal team — we configure exactly what they approve, in writing.

Once the HR-approved rule matrix is signed off, configuration effort on the platform itself depends on the platform and the number of sites and is agreed at scoping, followed by a parallel-run cycle to validate against payroll before the rule goes live.

Common questions

FAQs

What is comp-off / time-in-lieu under UAE law?

Comp-off (compensation off) and time-in-lieu (TIL) is the practice of granting an employee equivalent off-day credit when they work on a declared off-day, instead of paying overtime. UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, Article 28 permits TIL for public-holiday work as an alternative to additional pay, subject to your employment-contract terms. We are not a labour-law advisor — please confirm specifics with your HR / legal team or MoHRE.

Are you an authorised partner of ZKBio Time, Matrix COSEC, greytHR or Bayzat?

No. We are not a Channel Partner, Authorised Distributor or Authorised Reseller of ZKBio Time, Matrix COSEC, Greytip greytHR or Bayzat. We hold no manufacturer-level credential of our own. We install and configure these TA platforms commercially via authorised UAE channels, and we are ADMCC-approved for electronic security work in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

Can you advise on the right accrual ratio (1:1 vs 1.5:1)?

No — that is a labour-law and HR-policy decision for your team. We configure exactly the ratio your HR / legal team approves in writing. We can show you how each ratio behaves on the platform during the scoping visit, but the policy choice is yours.

How do you stop overtime and comp-off being double-counted on payroll?

During configuration we define mutual-exclusion rules: if a punch span is paid as overtime, it does not also generate comp-off accrual, and vice-versa. We then build a reconciliation report so payroll can verify the OT register and the comp-off accrual register do not overlap before salary processing.

What expiry windows are commonly used?

Windows of 90 days, 180 days and 365 days from accrual are commonly used. Some policies also set a hard cap (e.g. maximum 5 days carried at any time). We are not recommending a specific window — your HR team chooses, and we configure it with auto-lapse and pre-expiry notifications on employee self-service.

How do we request a quote for comp-off / TIL configuration?

Call us on +971 55 651 7843 or email [email protected] for a scoping visit to your Abu Dhabi or Al Ain site, or request a free comp-off TIL configuration consultation. We will walk through the HR rule matrix, confirm the TA platform, and return a fixed-scope quotation.
