What is anti-passback and mantrap access control, and how does Emirtech configure it in Abu Dhabi?

Emirtech Technology is an ADMCC-approved electronic security integrator founded in 2018 and based at M44, Mussafah Industrial Area, Abu Dhabi. We design and configure anti-passback (APB) rules and mantrap / airlock / sally-port vestibule logic across Abu Dhabi and Al Ain on the access control platform you already operate or are deploying. Anti-passback prevents a single credential from being used twice in the same direction without an intervening exit (or entry), limiting card pass-back, buddy-punching and credential sharing (tailgating is addressed by the mantrap, not by APB alone). We configure Hard APB (strict in/out alternation — access denied on violation), Soft APB (event-logged alert with permitted access), Timed APB (re-entry blocked until a configured minute window elapses), Global APB (state synchronised across all readers / controllers in the cluster) and Zone APB (per-zone occupancy tracking with nested-zone hierarchy). For mantraps we deliver standard two-door interlocked vestibules where door A must fully close and lock before door B releases, weight-sensor single-occupancy mantraps, and card-plus-biometric multi-factor mantraps where both doors require two-factor authentication. Typical applications include data centre white-space and MMR rooms, server rooms, financial vaults, controlled-substance pharmacy stores, R&D laboratories, biocontainment areas and high-risk site perimeters. We configure these features on Lenel S2 OnGuard / NetBox, Software House C-CURE 9000, Honeywell Pro-Watch / WIN-PAK, Genetec Synergis, AMAG Symmetry, ZKTeco InBio / ZKBio CVSecurity and Matrix COSEC — all sourced through authorised UAE distribution channels. Emirtech is not a Channel Partner, Authorised Distributor, Master Dealer or Tier-1 reseller of Lenel S2, Software House, Honeywell, Genetec, AMAG, ZKTeco or Matrix; we hold no manufacturer credential of our own. We are not SIRA-licensed (Dubai), not ISO 27001 / NESA / ADHICS / PDPL-certified and not a 24/7 SOC operator. APB & Mantrap Capabilities

What we configure on your access platform

Hard, Soft & Timed APB

Hard APB blocks reuse until exit logged; Soft APB logs the violation and permits access for pass-back investigations; Timed APB locks re-entry for a configured minute window. Each mode tuned per door, per cardholder group, per schedule on your platform.

Global & Zone APB

Global APB synchronises cardholder state across every reader and controller in the cluster so an entry at gate cannot be reused at a turnstile. Zone APB tracks occupancy per nested zone — site, building, floor, room — with parent / child hierarchy.

Two-Door Interlocked Mantrap

Standard sally-port vestibule: door A must fully close, lock and report status before door B receives a release command. Configured with magnetic contacts, lock monitoring, request-to-exit logic and reader pairing on Lenel, Software House, Honeywell, Genetec, AMAG, ZKTeco or Matrix.

Weight & Biometric Mantrap

Single-occupancy mantraps with floor-mounted weight sensor or laser counting to deny door-B release if two people are detected inside the vestibule. Multi-factor card-plus-biometric verification at both doors for data centre, vault and biocontainment applications.

APB & mantrap configuration checklist

From site survey through commissioning we work to a structured anti-passback and mantrap checklist, agreed with your security manager and IT lead before any change is pushed to the live access system. Call +971 55 651 7843 or request a free APB and mantrap consultation.

  • Site survey of doors, readers, controllers, lock hardware and existing APB / mantrap state
  • Risk classification per door (vault, MMR, white-space, lab, pharmacy, general office)
  • APB mode selection per door — Hard, Soft, Timed, Global, Zone — with cardholder-group overrides
  • Reader pairing (IN / OUT) and request-to-exit configuration on every APB door
  • Mantrap interlock logic: door-A close-and-lock confirmation before door-B release command
  • Weight sensor or laser people-counting integration for single-occupancy mantraps
  • Multi-factor enrolment (card + PIN, card + biometric) at both mantrap doors where required
  • Forgive-APB and reset schedules (shift change, end-of-day, fire alarm override)
  • Fire / life-safety override: mantrap fail-safe behaviour agreed with your fire consultant and Civil Defence approvals
  • Event mapping to SIEM, video management and intrusion panels for violation alerts
  • Test plan: tailgate attempt, double-swipe, timed re-entry, zone violation, mantrap defeat
  • Documented runbook, operator training and handover to your security operations team

Platforms & Use Cases

Where APB and mantraps are deployed

Data Centre & MMR

White-space, meeting-me room and cage-level mantraps with Global APB across all readers, weight-sensor single occupancy and card-plus-biometric two-factor at both doors. Event feed mapped to DCIM and SIEM for audit and incident investigation.

Financial Vault & Cash Rooms

Two-person rule mantraps with simultaneous credential presentation, Hard APB at vault perimeter and Timed APB on cash-handling rooms. Audit logs retained per your bank or exchange-house internal policy and external auditor requirements.

Pharmacy & Lab

Controlled-substance pharmacy stores, R&D laboratories and biocontainment areas with Zone APB occupancy tracking, multi-factor mantrap entry and integration with environmental monitoring. Designed around your facility SOPs and regulator inspection requirements.

Perimeter High-Risk Sites

Critical-infrastructure and industrial perimeter with vehicle sally-port mantraps, ANPR-plus-card APB at gates and Global APB across the site to prevent credential pass-back between outer fence, inner fence and building entrances.

Scope — what we deliver and explicitly do not

Our anti-passback and mantrap scope is deliberately bounded. We configure the access control platform and door hardware; we do not act as the manufacturer, the regulator or your compliance authority. The bullets below set the line clearly so procurement, security and audit teams can plan accordingly.

  • We deliver: site survey, APB mode selection (Hard / Soft / Timed / Global / Zone), reader IN / OUT pairing, mantrap interlock logic, weight and biometric multi-factor configuration, fire-override alignment, event mapping, test plan, runbook and operator training across Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
  • We do not deliver: manufacturer firmware development, custom SDK code against the platform, 24/7 SOC monitoring of APB violation events, PDPL legal advisory or formal internal-audit sign-off of your access policy.
  • We are not: SIRA-licensed (Dubai), ISO 27001 / NESA / ADHICS / PDPL-certified, or a 24/7 SOC operator. Geographic scope for ADMCC-regulated electronic security work is Abu Dhabi and Al Ain only.
  • We are not affiliated with: Lenel S2, Software House (Johnson Controls), Honeywell Pro-Watch, Genetec Synergis, AMAG Symmetry, ZKTeco InBio or Matrix COSEC as a Channel Partner, Authorised Distributor, Master Dealer or Tier-1 reseller. We hold no manufacturer credential of our own.
  • Hardware is sourced through authorised UAE distribution channels and supplied with the manufacturer warranty as issued by the distributor; Emirtech provides configuration, commissioning and post-go-live support under a separate service agreement.
  • Fire and life-safety override behaviour for mantraps is designed in coordination with your fire consultant and Civil Defence approvals; Emirtech configures the access platform to the agreed fail-safe state but does not issue fire-strategy approval.

If your security manager, IT lead or facilities team wants a structured APB and mantrap review against your current door schedule and platform, our Mussafah team will attend site, document the existing state and propose a configuration plan in writing before any change is made.

Common questions

FAQs

What is the difference between Hard, Soft, Timed, Global and Zone anti-passback?

Hard APB denies access when a cardholder tries to re-enter without first exiting (or vice versa). Soft APB logs the violation as an event but still grants access — useful for investigation phases. Timed APB blocks re-entry only within a configured minute window. Global APB synchronises cardholder state across every reader and controller. Zone APB tracks occupancy per nested zone (site, building, floor, room). We map the appropriate mode per door and per cardholder group on your platform.

How does a mantrap or airlock vestibule actually work?

A mantrap is a two-door vestibule. Door A must close, lock and report its locked status to the controller before door B receives a release command — and the reverse for exit. We add weight sensors or laser people-counting to enforce single occupancy, and card-plus-PIN or card-plus-biometric two-factor at both doors for higher-risk applications such as data centre white-space, vaults and biocontainment.

Which access control platforms do you configure APB and mantraps on?

Lenel S2 OnGuard / NetBox, Software House C-CURE 9000 (Johnson Controls), Honeywell Pro-Watch and WIN-PAK, Genetec Synergis, AMAG Symmetry, ZKTeco InBio with ZKBio CVSecurity, and Matrix COSEC. Hardware is sourced through authorised UAE distribution. We are not a Channel Partner, Authorised Distributor, Master Dealer or Tier-1 reseller of any of these brands — we hold no manufacturer credential of our own.

Are you SIRA-licensed and is Emirtech a regulator or certifier?

No. Emirtech is ADMCC-approved for electronic security work in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain only. We are not SIRA-licensed (Dubai), not ISO 27001 / NESA / ADHICS / PDPL-certified, and not a 24/7 SOC operator. We deliver technical configuration; your compliance, audit and certification authority remains with your appointed bodies.

How is fire and life-safety egress handled in a mantrap?

Mantraps must fail-safe to permit egress on fire alarm in line with UAE Fire and Life Safety Code and Civil Defence approvals. We configure the access platform to release the appropriate door(s) on a fire alarm input from your addressable fire panel, but the fire strategy itself is owned by your fire consultant. Emirtech does not issue fire-strategy approval. A mantrap also needs a defined emergency or manual release so nobody can be held in the vestibule if a sensor, door or controller fails.

How do I request a quotation for APB and mantrap configuration?

Call our Mussafah team on +971 55 651 7843, email [email protected] or submit the form on our quotation page with your platform, door count and risk classification per door. We will arrange a site survey from M44, Mussafah Industrial Area, Abu Dhabi and return a written scope and price before any change is pushed to your live system.
