Palm Jebel Ali is a Nakheel-developed palm-shaped island megaproject with an unusual history: construction began in October 2002 and the breakwater was completed by December 2006, but the project was halted after the 2008 financial crisis and sat largely dormant for around 15 years. Nakheel announced a relaunch on 31 May 2023, with construction restarting in 2024; the developer's stated targets are the first residential units around Q1 2027 and full completion around 2028. The relaunched masterplan is described as roughly 50% larger than Palm Jumeirah, designed for around 35,000 families across six marinas, a "Sea Village" of overwater stilt houses, and a mix of roughly 1,700 villas and 6,000 apartments. Because the island is under active construction rather than an established, occupied community, Emirtech's role today is pre-handover planning: working with individual off-plan buyers to specify Control4 smart-home systems, structured cabling and network infrastructure against the developer's own floor plans, so that conduit and cabling can go in during the contractor's build phase instead of being retrofitted into a finished villa later.
