What does NFC handshake access control deep implementation actually involve?

NFC (Near Field Communication) handshake access control deep implementation means installing and configuring access infrastructure that uses the 13.56 MHz NFC band — the same frequency as MIFARE and iCLASS — but with the bidirectional read/write handshake capability that lets smartphones operate in three active modes: card emulation (Apple Wallet, Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet presents the phone as a credential), peer-to-peer (handshake exchange between two NFC devices) and reader/writer (smartphone reads or writes a physical card). Emirtech installs and configures NFC-enabled readers such as HID Signo, ZKTeco D-series and ASSA ABLOY DESFire readers, integrating them with mobile credential platforms including HID Mobile Access, Brivo and Avigilon Alta, and tuning Apple ECP (Enhanced Contactless Polling — the protocol that wakes an iPhone the moment it is tapped on a configured door) and Google Wallet for tap-to-unlock door release. At an enrolment desk we configure write-to-card credential provisioning so DESFire EV2 or EV3 cards can be issued, re-keyed or revoked. Emirtech is an ADMCC-approved electronic security contractor founded in 2018, operating from M44, Mussafah Industrial Area, Abu Dhabi, and delivers this work commercially across Abu Dhabi and Al Ain only. We are not a Channel Partner or Authorised Distributor of Apple, Google, Samsung, HID Global, ASSA ABLOY, ZKTeco, Brivo or Avigilon Alta, we are not endorsed by the NFC Forum, and we do not represent any wallet platform. We hold no manufacturer-level credential of our own. We do not operate an ADMCC central station, we are not a network engineering firm or a firmware development entity, and we do not hold SIRA, ISO 27001, NESA, ADHICS or PDPL certification. NFC handshake capabilities we install

Core NFC handshake access deliverables

Smartphone-as-credential rollout

Install and configure NFC-enabled readers to accept Apple Wallet, Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet credentials, with HID Mobile Access, Brivo or Avigilon Alta as the mobile credential issuing platform integrated through authorised UAE channels; availability of wallet credentials by country and handset depends on Apple, Google, Samsung and the platform vendor.

Tap-to-unlock door release

Configure Apple ECP (Enhanced Contactless Polling) and Google Wallet so a registered handset wakes on door tap and releases an electric strike, maglock or motorised lock through the access control unit within the standard NFC range of a few centimetres.

Enrolment-desk card writing

Set up reader/writer NFC stations at the enrolment desk so operators can issue, re-key, and revoke DESFire EV2 / EV3 credentials, write site keys, and bind cards to cardholder records inside the access control software.

Reader hardware install + commissioning

Mount, wire and commission HID Signo, ZKTeco D-series or ASSA ABLOY DESFire readers on OSDP or Wiegand, terminate to the controller, energise, range-test the NFC handshake, and hand over with as-built drawings.

Why specify an NFC handshake deployment instead of legacy 125 kHz

Legacy 125 kHz proximity credentials (EM4100, HID Prox) broadcast a static ID with no handshake, no encryption and no smartphone path. NFC at 13.56 MHz runs a bidirectional cryptographic handshake, supports DESFire EV2/EV3 diversified keys, and is the physical-layer route used by wallet-based tap credentials on iOS and Android. Migrating to NFC readers with DESFire EV2/EV3 credentials reduces the cloning risk of 125 kHz cards and enables smartphone enrolment without rebuilding the door hardware. • Door-by-door reader survey: existing make, model, protocol (Wiegand / OSDP), wiring run length and back-box depth
  • 13.56 MHz NFC reader selection: HID Signo 20/40, ZKTeco D-series or ASSA ABLOY DESFire reader matched to door type
  • Mobile credential platform choice: HID Mobile Access, Brivo or Avigilon Alta via authorised UAE distributor
  • Apple ECP (Enhanced Contactless Polling) configuration so iPhone wakes on tap without unlocking the screen first
  • Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet configuration for Android tap-to-unlock
  • DESFire EV2 / EV3 site key generation, secure key injection and key custody documentation
  • OSDP Secure Channel enabled between reader and controller where the controller supports it
  • Enrolment-desk USB NFC reader/writer for card issuance, re-keying and revocation workflows
  • Range testing of NFC handshake at each door — typical read distance of two to four centimetres
  • Cardholder enrolment templates inside the access control software, bound to HR or visitor records
  • Mobile credential issue, revoke and re-issue runbook handed to the security manager
  • As-built drawings, commissioning sheet and OEM warranty registration through the authorised distributor

ASSA ABLOY DESFire reader stack

Install ASSA ABLOY DESFire-capable readers, configure diversified key sets per cardholder, and integrate with the customer's access platform for high-assurance NFC handshake credentials at controlled doors.

Brivo and Avigilon Alta mobile platforms

Configure Brivo or Avigilon Alta (formerly Openpath) as the cloud access platform that issues NFC mobile credentials to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet via authorised UAE channels, and bind those credentials to door schedules, holidays and visitor profiles.

Scope — what we deliver and explicitly do not

Honesty about scope matters more than marketing language. The bullets below set out exactly what Emirtech delivers under NFC handshake access control deep implementation, what we do not deliver, and the brands and regulators we are not affiliated with.

  • We deliver: install and configuration of 13.56 MHz NFC-enabled readers (HID Signo, ZKTeco D-series, ASSA ABLOY DESFire), commissioning of OSDP / Wiegand termination, configuration of HID Mobile Access, Brivo and Avigilon Alta platforms via authorised UAE channels, Apple ECP and Google Wallet tap-to-unlock tuning, DESFire EV2 / EV3 site-key configuration, enrolment-desk write-to-card provisioning, and as-built handover.
  • We do not deliver: ADMCC central station signalling operation, NESA / ADHICS / PDPL compliance attestation, ISO 27001 audit, penetration testing of the NFC stack, firmware development for readers or controllers, network engineering of the wider corporate LAN, manufacture of NFC hardware, or operation of Apple Wallet / Google Wallet / Samsung Wallet back-end services.
  • We are not: a Channel Partner or Authorised Distributor of Apple, Google, Samsung, HID Global, ASSA ABLOY, ZKTeco, Brivo or Avigilon Alta — we hold no manufacturer-level credential of our own. We are not endorsed by the NFC Forum and we do not represent any wallet platform.
  • We are not affiliated with: Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet, HID Global, NFC Forum, or authorised NFC access distributors in the UAE. Distribution and OEM warranty obligations sit with the appointed UAE distributor of each brand.
  • Geographic scope for ADMCC-regulated electronic security work is Abu Dhabi emirate and Al Ain only.
  • All NFC reader hardware, mobile credential licences and software is sourced through the brand's authorised UAE distributor — Emirtech adds installation, configuration, commissioning and handover.

If any item above sits outside what your project actually needs, tell us during the site survey and we will mark it out of scope in writing before quotation. We will not claim certifications, distributor status or service capabilities we do not hold.

Common questions

FAQs

What is the difference between NFC and standard 13.56 MHz MIFARE or iCLASS?

NFC and MIFARE / iCLASS share the 13.56 MHz physical layer, so an NFC-enabled reader can usually read DESFire and iCLASS cards. The difference is the handshake: NFC adds bidirectional read/write and three active modes — card emulation (smartphone as credential), peer-to-peer (handshake exchange between two NFC devices) and reader/writer (phone reads or writes a card). Without NFC handshake support, a reader cannot accept Apple Wallet, Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet credentials.

Which smartphones work with NFC tap-to-unlock at the door?

Modern iPhones with Apple ECP (Enhanced Contactless Polling) enabled wake on door tap and present the configured wallet credential without unlocking the screen. Android handsets running Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet operate similarly. The mobile credential platform — HID Mobile Access, Brivo or Avigilon Alta — issues the credential to the wallet, and the door reader negotiates the NFC handshake. We configure the reader and the platform; the wallet itself is operated by Apple, Google or Samsung.

Is Emirtech a distributor of HID, ASSA ABLOY, ZKTeco, Brivo, Avigilon Alta or any wallet platform?

No. Emirtech is not a Channel Partner or Authorised Distributor of HID Global, ASSA ABLOY, ZKTeco, Brivo, Avigilon Alta, Apple, Google or Samsung. We are not endorsed by the NFC Forum. We hold no manufacturer-level credential of our own. All NFC reader hardware, mobile credential licences and software is sourced through the brand's appointed UAE distributor. We install, configure and commission, and we are ADMCC-approved for electronic security work in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

What is the typical read range for NFC handshake at a door?

NFC operates at very short range by design — typically two to four centimetres between the credential and the reader antenna. This is a security feature, not a limitation: the short range makes casual skimming harder than with longer-range 125 kHz proximity, though it does not remove the need for secure credentials and reader configuration. We range-test each door during commissioning and document the achieved read distance on the handover sheet.

Can we keep our existing access control panel and only replace the readers?

In most cases yes. NFC handshake readers from HID Signo, ZKTeco D-series and ASSA ABLOY communicate to controllers over OSDP or Wiegand, so the existing access controller, software and door hardware can usually stay in place. We confirm protocol compatibility during the door-by-door survey, prefer OSDP Secure Channel where the controller supports it, and call out any controller-side firmware upgrade required before quotation.
